Thanks guys! It was a really amazing climb, a great learning experience, and gave me a lot of confidence to get through difficult situations. Also made me realize just how critical having a level-headed, competent partner is in case the going gets tough. I'm fully recovered from the collarbone and shoulder surgeries now - enough to make an attempt at Denali as a small team of two last June (gotta go back to try again this coming June).

As a postscript, here is an article about the vandalism that was occurring in backpacker lots up and down 395 at the time - http://www.inyoregister.com/content/view/115766/

Believe it or not, they ended up catching the guy (I believe he had sledgehammers, knives, and tools for gas siphoning in his car). Can't find the article on that right now but I was stoked they got him. Crazy thing was he was from SF (and so am I) - really couldn't imaging driving all that way to jack up happy backpackers and climbers!

Well Done Emilie! Great story of climbing in my favorite chunk of mountains! That zone of moraine and domes between the glacier and Sam Mack is indeed difficult to navigate- only after dozens of trips there did I feel confident navigating it in the dark. Good job getting through the night and getting safely to your "hearty breakfast".

Oh bw great trip report Emile. I forgot to say that in my first post because I was so angry reading about what happened to your car. We go into the wilderness to get away from 'civilization', sucks when it follows us there!
