Castle peak – spring in the backcountry!
Made a quick dash for Tahoe Friday
night. Skied Castle Peak on Saturday. Started skinning around 10:30 and was on the peak around 12:30. It’s not a big climb at all. Plenty of time
to link this up with Andesite peak to the South. I met up with a
couple of nice blokes from Davis near the summit, had some lunch, enjoyed the views and the sun, and then down-climbed a bit on the south side of the peak to find a
good chute.
We found a perfect chute – near 40
degress at the top – and then skied perfect spring corn down the
wide-open south slopes and into the trees. Great day in the backcountry. Only
problem is I got a terrible sunburn. When, oh when, will I learn?
