Farewell Sir Edmund Hillary
Sir Edmund Hillary died today. He was an alpinist of the highest order and one of the pioneers of high-altitude climbing. Besides that, anybody who can climb everest in leather boots and wool pants has my respect. Here’s more: Sir Edmund Hillary, the First Man to Summit Mount Everest, Dies at 88
Actually that’s not Sir Edmund Hillary, that’s his climbing mate Tanzig Noray. Tanzig didn’t know how to use the camera, so Edmund snapped this photo of him on top of the summitt in 1953
