Lone Eagle Peak – Indian Peaks Wilderness

2

Man, I forgot to post this. It’ s been sitting in my drafts. So this was a little while ago. I flew out to Denver for the weekend to visit some friends, do some climbing/backpacking and see Yonder Mountain String Band play with ex-Phish drummer, Jon Fishman. Our intention was to backpack into the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area (a 10ish mile hike), make camp, climb Eagle Peak the next morning, hike out and make it to Red Rocks in time to see YMSB. The best laid plans…     the hike took way longer than we thought, the climb took way longer than we thought, some weather came in which slowed us down. You know the game. It was a successful climb and a great couple of days, but we didn’t get back to the car until after dark, so we missed the show. No biggie. I’ll take a climbing day like that over any concert in the world.

Eagle Peak is stunning. And the climb is fabulous. It ends with a one-foot-wide cat walk out to the summit. And the summit is this perfect little block with sheer thousand-foor drops on all sides. The last picture below is my buddy Jon on the summit.

  1. Hey Matt which Eagle is this? It’d be cool if you included a Yahoo or Google Maps widget in your posts!

  2. Matt says:

Fab idea John… looking into it. Good project for my delayed flight out of Vegas!
